Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento River 10/6/2022

Getting out early in the morning pays off with an average of 30 to 40 hookups or more a day. The flows from Keswick Dam are at 4150 cfs and staying consistent for weeks now, with some Salmon and Steelhead showing up they are holding in the deep runs/holes and riffles with the trout right behind them wanting their eggs.

We are hooking up under our custom made Invisible Strike Indicators. With dead drifting and swinging in the riffles and tail-outs it’s a very productive way of catching fish, especially when you run an egg pattern on top of your other flies as an attractor. The fish zero in on the egg, and either take the egg or one of the dropper flies to save the egg; it doesn’t matter if it is something as big as a leech down to the smallest fly. It works!

Lower Sacramento River 5/26/2022

The past few weeks have been great picking up fish from sun up to sun down. Now that the flows being released from Keswick Dam are around 3800 cfs, from 3200 cfs, the dynamics of the river has changed a bit. The fish are now in transition to new holding spots/places, with flows being consistent for a few days now the bite is picking back up from 10 to 20 fish a day, to 30 to 40 fish a day per boat, with an average of 18” to 23” and a few that were quite a bit more impressive.

Most of the fish are picked up in the riffles at the head of the runs and in the deeper tailouts, with a few in the seams. Now that we are moving into the hotter months, fish will be holding in the deep holes, runs and heavily oxygenated riffles. Along with the banks that are heavily shaded to escape the heat and the birds of prey.
